Dieses Stichspiel besticht durch seine einzigartige Punktewertung: Die Spieler sammeln Karten in fünf Farben (Blau, Grün, Lila, Rot, Gelb) mit Werten von 0 bis 11, wobei nur die obersten Karten der Farbstapel relevant für die Punktzahl sind. Ziel ist es, durch geschicktes Ausspielen höchste Werte zu erringen und gleichzeitig die Kartenstapel der Mitspieler mit niedrigen oder Null-Werten zu beeinflussen.

Jeder Spieler startet mit 13 Karten, von denen drei offen als Basisstapel ausgelegt werden. Der Spielablauf erfolgt reihum, wobei der Spieler mit der höchsten gespielten Karte den Stich gewinnt und als Nächstes ausspielt. Die taktische Tiefe entsteht durch die Kombination aus dem höchstwertigen Kartenstich und dem gezielten Verändern der Farbenstapel, um am Ende die meisten Punkte zu erzielen. Das Spiel beinhaltet 65 Karten, eine Anleitung und einen Wertungsblock. Aufgrund seiner Komplexität und der Dauer eignet sich Null & Nichtig besonders für einen anspruchsvollen Spieleabend mit Freunden.
