RCD4 ist eine Form der PRA, die erstmals bei Gordon Settern beschrieben wurde und spter bei mehreren anderen Hunderassen

Die progressive retinal Atrophie (PRA) ist eine erbliche Erkrankung, die bei vielen Hunderassen auftritt und sich in verschiedenen klinisch nicht unterscheidbaren Formen äußert. Die progressive Degeneration von Stäbchen und Zapfen in der Netzhaut führt zu einem fortschreitenden Verlust des Sehvermögens, der mit völliger Erblindung endet. RCD4 ist eine Form der PRA, die erstmals bei Gordon Settern beschrieben wurde und später bei mehreren anderen Hunderassen gefunden wurde. Die allmähliche Degeneration der Photorezeptorzellen ist typisch für diese Form der Erkrankung. Klinische Anzeichen werden normalerweise erst im späteren Lebensalter (ca. 10 Jahre) evident.

Vererbung: autosomal rezessiv

Mutation: C2orf71-Gen

Gentest: Die verwendete Methode zum Testen ist äußerst genau und ermöglicht eine vollständige Unterscheidung zwischen betroffenen Tieren, Trägern und gesunden Hunden. Der Test kann in jedem Alter durchgeführt werden.
