The hand-woven cotton rope basket, with its signature wave rim and knotted rope handles, sits comfortably alongside your own home décor — whether that's Scandi-minimal, boho, or somewhere in between. Cats seem to appreciate the deep 20cm walls too, which give that enclosed, secure feeling they instinctively seek out.
Choose the configuration that suits your cat: the basket alone for cats who prefer a firm base, the cushion insert for a softer landing, or the scratcher board for cats who like to knead and scratch before settling. Both inserts sit neatly inside the basket and lift out for cleaning. Available in 40cm (ideal for one cat) and 50cm (generous for larger cats, or two small cats who tolerate each other).

The asymmetric wave profile gives cats a low entry point on one side while keeping the opposite side high for leaning and resting their chin — exactly how most cats prefer to sleep.

⚠ Size guide
The 40cm basket suits most cats up to around 5kg who like a snug, enclosed feel. The 50cm is better for larger cats, long-bodied breeds (Maine Coon, Ragdoll, Norwegian Forest Cat), or if your cat prefers to sprawl rather than curl. If in doubt, go larger — cats rarely complain about extra room.
Questions & answers
Which size should I choose?
The 40cm basket is ideal for cats up to around 5kg who enjoy a cosy, enclosed feel. The 50cm suits larger breeds, long cats, or cats who like to stretch out. If you're between sizes, choose the 50cm — cats tend to appreciate more space, and the deeper walls still give them that secure, den-like feeling.
Can I buy the inserts separately if my cat destroys one?
The scratcher board in particular will wear down with use — that's completely normal. Contact us via our contact page and we'll let you know current availability for replacement inserts.
Is the basket machine washable?
The basket is best cleaned by wiping with a damp cloth — machine washing is not recommended as it may distort the woven rope structure. For the cushion mat, spot cleaning or a gentle hand wash is the safest approach. The scratcher board should be kept dry.
Will it hold up to scratching on the outside walls?
The woven cotton rope is reasonably resilient but is not designed as a scratcher surface — that's what the optional scratcher board insert is for. Some cats will scratch at the outside walls regardless, and the rope can fray with sustained scratching. The scratcher board variant is the better choice for cats who scratch before settling.
Is it suitable for dogs or other pets?
Yes — the basket works well for small dogs and rabbits too. The open-top design suits any pet that's comfortable in a basket-style bed rather than an enclosed cave. For larger dogs, the 50cm is the appropriate size.
My cat ignores new beds — any tips?
Place the basket in a spot your cat already gravitates towards rather than trying to redirect them. Putting one of your worn T-shirts or a familiar blanket inside initially can help them accept it as their own. A small sprinkle of catnip on the cushion mat doesn't hurt either.
