About the work

Xavier Ribas’ edition for the Whitechapel Gallery is one of the photographs from his 2008 work Nomads (Part 1), which is exhibited at the Whitechapel Gallery as part of A Handful of Dust 7 June – 3 September 2017.

On the 24th of February 2004 corporate developers Necso-Acciona sent heavy machinery to an industrial plot that they owned in the city of Barcelona, which was being occupied by some sixty Gypsy families. Over a few days two diggers drilled and lifted up the concrete floor of the site intimidating the Gypsies and finally pushing them out, leaving behind a contorted surface, like a horizontal wall, to protect the site and keep it empty. This method of dissuasion demonstrates the economic value of violence and destruction, even of one’s own property, in order to control space.

The edition entitled Concrete Geographies (Nomads) Nr2, 2008/2017 magnifies a detail of this broken ground. The fissures and fragments of concrete slabs standing up like remnants of ancient Maya stelae carvings give testimony still today of this displacement.

Pup Loves It, Some Other Notes
Color: Orange
We've had this for about six months and my 75 lb, 14-month-old German Shepherd pup LOVES IT. Her favorite is "Crazy Bouncing Mode." In fact, she doesn't care much for the normal mode. She chews it a lot - even drops it in her water bowl at times - and it's still going strong. This is a great purchase. It's nice hands-off entertainment. Do know that it is heavy compared to a normal ball - if your pup likes dropping it on the ground like mine does, it will land with a hard "thud," even with the included sleeve. Hopefully you don't have downstairs neighbors. Also know that the cover that goes over the charging port is removable and your dog may choke on it if they chew it in just the right manner. Definitely only let the pup play with it while supervised. All in all, great toy.

My dog LOVES these balls
Awesome balls! Soft, squishy, and dog can get their teeth into them but they don’t get damaged. My dog absolutely loves them!

Durable.
These are great for my 13 lb Schnauzer. Just the right size to keep him occupied! He loves chasing after them when we play catch. They’ve held up well to his sharp teeth.

Durable yet soft ball that our dog enjoys chewing.
The balls are soft and well received by our puppy. They are pretty durable and he enjoys both chasing after them and teething on them.
