Rega Isis CD Player Reference CD Transport

Available at Vinyl Sound, Toronto's reference hi-fi specialist in Richmond Hill, ON, the Rega Isis is Rega's absolute flagship CD player — a statement piece engineered to extract every last detail from the Red Book CD format. Hand-built in the UK with Rega's own proprietary CD mechanism, discrete Class A circuitry, and a custom CNC-machined solid anodised aluminium chassis tipping the scales at 19 kg, the Isis represents decades of specialist hi-fi manufacturing experience distilled into a single component.

Why the Rega Isis is in a class of its own

Where most CD players delegate critical signal duties to off-the-shelf op-amps, the Isis uses fully discrete Class A operational amplifiers and filters — chosen purely for sonic performance, not cost. Twin Burr-Brown DACs operate in parallel dual-mono mode, ensuring wide dynamic range and exceptionally low distortion (THD+N <0.0013%). The result is a frequency response flat to ±0.1 dB from 17 Hz to 20 kHz: as close to a perfect read of the disc as analogue engineering allows.

Key features

  • Rega 'K Power' custom smoothing capacitors for ultra-stable power supply
  • Custom CNC-machined solid anodised aluminium case — 19 kg dead-weight chassis

Frequently asked questions

What makes the Rega Isis different from other high-end CD players?
The Isis uses fully discrete Class A amplifiers and filters rather than integrated op-amps, twin Burr-Brown DACs in parallel dual-mono mode, and Rega's own proprietary CD mechanism. Combined with a 19 kg CNC-machined aluminium chassis designed to eliminate vibration, it is engineered from the ground up for sonic performance rather than cost efficiency.

Does the Rega Isis have a built-in DAC?
Yes. The Isis uses twin Burr-Brown DACs running in parallel dual-mono configuration, operating at the standard Red Book CD sampling frequency of 44.1 kHz. It is designed as a complete, self-contained CD player rather than a transport requiring an external DAC.

What amplifier or preamplifier pairs well with the Rega Isis?
The Isis is designed to pair naturally with Rega's own reference-grade electronics, including the Osiris integrated amplifier, though its balanced and unbalanced outputs make it compatible with any high-quality preamplifier or integrated amplifier. At Vinyl Sound Toronto, our team can advise on system matching.

What is the warranty on the Rega Isis?
Rega provides a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects on the Isis CD player — a reflection of the confidence Rega places in the build quality and longevity of this flagship component.

How heavy is the Rega Isis and why does it weigh so much?
The Isis weighs 19 kg. The mass comes primarily from its custom CNC-machined solid anodised aluminium chassis, which is engineered to provide a mechanically dead, vibration-free platform for the transport mechanism and sensitive analogue circuitry — a key factor in its sonic performance.

Is the Rega Isis still in production?
The Isis is Rega's reference-tier flagship and is produced in limited quantities by hand in the UK. Stock availability is limited — contact Vinyl Sound Toronto directly to confirm current availability.

Where can I audition or buy the Rega Isis in Canada?
The Rega Isis is available at Vinyl Sound, Toronto's dedicated hi-fi specialist located in Richmond Hill, ON. You can also enquire online at vinylsound.ca — our team can assist with shipping across Canada.

Keeps lousy time
Color: Silver-Tone/Black
I purchased this watch off Amazon Warehouse well below MSRP out of curiosity to see what Timex is doing in 2024. The specs are good - bead blasted stainless case, solar movement with quick set date and hacking, sapphire crystal, screwdown crown and 100m water resistance. The movement is Japanese, case and bracelet are made in China, and the watch is assembled somewhere overseas. The good - the watch is lightweight and comfortable on the wrist. Price, even at full MSRP makes this an extremely good value for what you get. It is a good looking Flieger style watch. Once fully charged it is keeping good time. Case finish is well executed and without rough or sharp edges. The bad - the lume is weak. When blasted with UV, it fades quickly and within 5 minutes it’s gone. The bracelet is low end, but expected at this price point. I swapped it out with a nice leather strap from my collection with better quality spring bars and it makes the watch look and feel higher end. The Ugly - the second hand misses nearly all the chapter ring marks. The minute and hour hands are aligned, but that second hand seems to have a mind of its own. On my watch it lines up with chapter ring marks maybe 10% of the time, but it’s not consistent. Sum up, for a sub $200 watch the specs are great and it’s a good looking comfortable watch. Just keep your expectations aligned with what you are paying for. It compares favorably to Orients & Citizens at this price, and offers better value than comparable competitors now that Seiko has gone upmarket. I like this watch. Just don’t compare it to a Swiss watch costing several times its price. Update after a few months: I’m changing my rating to 3 stars. This watch keeps lousy time! It is loosing around 5 minutes per month. And it is fully charged. I have other Solar quartz watches from Citizen, Seiko and Vaer which maintain very good accuracy. But this Timex … defeats the purpose of a solar powered “grab and go” watch when you have to correct the time each occurrence you want to wear it.

Great Watch with Great Sapphire Crystal
Color: Olive/Gunmetal
Waited 2.5 years before reviewing. I love the gunmetal grey case, olive dial, and the exceptional sapphire crystal. The watch is still running great. During cold weather when wearing long sleeves, I make sure I charge the watch monthly by placing it under a table lamp for many hours because it died once due to no daylight charging. One problem is being able to see the minute markings. (The same watch with blue dial is much easier to read.) I also replaced the military-style band immediately with the excellent Archer 20mm Olive band (ARC-QRN-OLV20) and Archer 20mm Matte Gunmetal buckle ( ARC-BKL-GRYM20). I am only allowed to review once for this Timex model, so adding comments about the "Blue" version (TW2V03600JR). The blue version is the same watch but easier to view. It looks GREAT with the Archer 20mm Navy Blue band (ARC-QRN-NVY20).

I design flaw caused me to return it.
Color: Brown/Blue
Pros: - Perfect case size. - Sapphire crystal. - Solar powered quartz. - Large dial face - Minute and second hands reach to minute track for precise reading. - Great field watch design and proportions. - Effective lume on hands. Cons: - Lume on small triangular hour markers is useless, and fades quickly. - The hour numbers are not luminous. - The dull peach color chosen for the hour markers, numbers and hands in dim lighting is very dull and thus hard to read. - The dark blue color chosen for the dial is a dull hue that doesn’t really look blue, but just reduces the contrast between text and markers. - A black dial and bright white markers and numbers would make the watch much more legible/ readable, and would look much better aesthetically. It is a shame that these choices were made on an otherwise perfect design. - I was really excited that Timex finally seemed to get it when they came out with this series of models, but then they handicapped it with a dial that is only useable in bright light. What a shame. I am returning the watch.
