The story of the Combahee River Raid, one of Harriet Tubman's most extraordinary accomplishments, based on original documents and written by a descendant of one of the participants. Most Americans know of Harriet Tubman's legendary life: escaping enslavement in 1849, she led more than 60 others out of bondage via the Underground Railroad, gave instructions on getting to freedom to scores more, and went on to live a lifetime fighting for change. Yet the many biographies, children's books, and films about Tubman omit a crucial chapter: during the Civil War, hired by the Union Army, she ventured into the heart of slave territory--Beaufort, South Carolina--to live, work, and gather intelligence for a daring raid up the Combahee River to attack the major plantations of Rice Country, the breadbasket of the Confederacy. Edda L. Fields-Black--herself a descendent of one of the participants in the raid--shows how Tubman commanded a ring of spies, scouts, and pilots and participated in military expeditions behind Confederate lines. On June 2, 1863, Tubman and her crew piloted two regiments of Black US Army soldiers, the Second South Carolina Volunteers, and their white commanders up coastal South Carolina's Combahee River in three gunboats.

In a matter of hours, they torched eight rice plantations and liberated 730 people, people whose Lowcountry Creole language and culture Tubman could not even understand. Black men who had liberated themselves from bondage on South Carolina's Sea Island cotton plantations after the Battle of Port Royal in November 1861 enlisted in the Second South Carolina Volunteers and risked their lives in the effort. Using previous unexamined documents, including Tubman's US Civil War Pension File, bills of sale, wills, marriage settlements, and estate papers from planters' families, Fields-Black brings to life intergenerational, extended enslaved families, neighbors, praise-house members, and sweethearts forced to work in South Carolina's deadly tidal rice swamps, sold, and separated during the antebellum period.

When Tubman and the gunboats arrived and blew their steam whistles, many of those people clambered aboard, sailed to freedom, and were eventually reunited with their families. The able-bodied Black men freed in the Combahee River Raid enlisted in the Second South Carolina Volunteers and fought behind Confederate lines for the freedom of others still enslaved not just in South Carolina but Georgia and Florida. After the war, many returned to the same rice plantations from which they had escaped, purchased land, married, and buried each other. These formerly enslaved peoples on the Sea Island indigo and cotton plantations, together with those in the semi-urban port cities of Charleston, Beaufort, and Savannah, and on rice plantations in the coastal plains, created the distinctly American Gullah Geechee dialect, culture, and identity--perhaps the most significant legacy of Harriet Tubman's Combahee River Raid.

wash carefully
Size: 38F, Color: Sargasso
Loved this bra so much that I immediately ordered a second one, but the wire broke through on the first wash. Still love it and will probably repurchase again because the fit is perfect, but if you're like me and just throw your bras in with the rest of your clothes, be sure to wash them on a delicate cycle! Other than that this is a fantastic bra. Good price, true to size, looks great and is super comfortable!

Ordered 3
Size: 44C, Color: Black
Great bra, pretty true to size, comfortable. Ordered one in fall and tried several other name brand underwire bras (lane bryant, Victoria Secret, Bali, Torrid, Hanes), returned most of them and came back for two more colors of this brand that I’d never heard of before. The material is nice, they fit well, I wash in cold on delicate and hang dry: so far so good. I normally take a 42C and went 44 for these. I think a 42 probably woulda been ok (I’m on the middle hook) but someone said they ran small. I’m not sure of that but keep it in mind if you’re maybe between sizes.

The BEST BRA for big bewbs!
Size: 36G, Color: Black
I've been a fan of Delimira for a while - it's hard to find a well made, comfortable, breathable bra for larger cup sizes at a price that doesn't require taking out a mortgage to afford it. I love this bra. It fits well, it's comfortable, it doesn't get hot, it seems really durable, and it's...sturdy. The underwire is not annoying, and while it's not the cutest bra, it's also not the most matronly bra I own. I have it in all three available colors and will 100% buy more colors should they ever release them.

Didn’t last for very long. Comfortable
Size: 42DD, Color: Beige
Comfortable bra. Good price but the wire popped out on one side after about 8 times of wearing it. Maybe it was the way I laundered it. It’s comfortable enough to want to order again and test that theory.

Love love love this bra.
Size: 34E, Color: Beige
I dont really write reviews but really felt like I needed to hop on here and give one. I have a terrible time finding bras that fit (small frame and my boobs never shrunk back down after having kids). I was initially looking for a non-underwire bra and ordred a couple to try. Was annoyed when this came in having underwire but thought ok, well its here so may as well try it. Fit like a dream so I told myself, Ill wear it for an hour and see how I feel about it then. I totally forgot I was wearing it. It is SO comfortable. The back doesnt ride up, I dont have underboob, it breathes nicely, holds me up, straps dont dig in or fall down, and I dont feel a huge sense of relief after taking it off at the end of the day. Ive ordered two more and after a few weeks of wearing and washing a couple times, I still absolutely love it.
