Blackheart: The History of Leys Malleable Castings in Derby. The Family and the FoundryFor over 113 years Ley's Malleable Castings was at the heart of Derby's industrial life, at one time it was the largest foundry of its kind in Europe. This is the story of a firm that dominated Derby for over a century. A family firm despite its large size, the company was presided over by four generations of the Ley family between 1873 and 1987. Both the family and the foundry were embedded in the history of Derby and their legacies can still be seen

For over 113 years Ley's Malleable Castings was at the heart of Derby's industrial life, at one time it was the largest foundry of its kind in Europe. This is the story of a firm that dominated Derby for over a century.

A family firm despite its large size, the company was presided over by four generations of the Ley family between 1873 and 1987. Both the family and the foundry were embedded in the history of Derby and their legacies can still be seen in the city today.

The Baseball Ground, built by Sir Francis Ley as a home for the game of baseball, was sold by him to Derby County FC and has only recently been demolished.

Remnants of the factory buildings and offices, which once covered an area of over 17 acres, can still be seen in Derby streets. Bob Read, a former employee of Ley's, has put together a fascinating survey of the history of the foundry.

This book uncovers a wealth of historical detail, and the account of the firm's fortunes is lavishly illustrated with drawings, photographs and ephemera that bring life to his story of a business that was part of Derby life for over a century.

He lives in Derby and has contributed to the Derby Evening Telegraph Bygones section on the subject of Ley's.

This frother is absolutely amazing such power behind it . Quality is just as amazing made very rugged. And I love the stand and the best thing about it is no more batteries to change now we just charge it up. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this product to everyone and I will be buying more of these for gifts and more for our winter home also. You won’t be disappointed at all.

Works as described
Color: Black
Love this whisk. I have arthritis and this is light weight enough for me to use. I love the push button, and the stand for it. It’s really easy to clean, and it blends my shakes nicely without leaving the powder behind.

Very Powerful Frother!!
Color: White
I’ve been using a frother daily for my drinks, and this one really impressed me with its power for such a compact size. It blends heavier powders into smooth, clump-free mixtures in seconds. I’m a big fan of the build—the metal whisk gives it a solid feel, and it comes with a stand to keep it neat on the counter instead of being shoved in a drawer. Cleaning is a breeze, just a quick rinse, and the rechargeable battery lasts much longer than I anticipated between charges. Just a little tip: start in a taller cup and don’t fill it all the way to the top, as this thing can create a serious vortex if you’re not careful. Overall, it’s been a super handy little tool, and I’m so glad I bought it.

Great upgrade compared to others
Color: Rechargeable with Storage Stand and Box - Black
This frother is far superior to other hand held versions we’ve owned. The attachments are much sturdier and don’t bend as easily (which made the others we’ve purchased quite useless). Rechargeable battery seems to last longer and provides plenty of power even on the lowest setting. The little wisk easily whips up eggs for a morning omelette and frothing cream and mixing powder into drinks are super easy with the other attachments. Finally, the stand is actually sturdy and balanced enough that it doesn’t easily tip over.

Three froth/blend options, rechargeable, comes with container
Color: Rechargeable with Storage Box - Silver, Color: Rechargeable with Storage Box - Silver
I watch a gentleman online who always talks about how in his 40 years he didn’t know x, y, z, and ends with “ain’t no way.” He made this 3-ingredient — 4 with ice— iced coffee, and used a handheld frother, so after shopping for ingredients, I went in search of a frother. What I liked about this one is that it’s not battery operated, but instead is rechargeable. It comes with three attachment, one of which I can use for cake batter, whipping up eggs, making homemade whipped cream, and also sauces and gravy. It also has a case so I am storing it with my coffee paraphernalia. It has three settings and I used the high setting. As you can see it really froths up the ingredients. I’m very pleased with my purchase and thought about all the times I need a slurry of water and cornstarch to thicken soups and stews. I don’t know the charge life yet, but so far, so good. What you see in the cup is 2 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk, 3 teaspoons of instant espresso, and 2 ounces of water. Then you add the ice and your creamer, half-and-half, or barista lover’s oat milk, and you’re done. Not too bad, as my grandpa used to say.
