artist biography
Baengt Dimming was a Swedish painter and illustrator known for his lyrical, often expressive approach to modernism. Born on April 17, 1919, in Gothenburg, Dimming studied at the Crafts Association's School and Valand’s Art School in Gothenburg between 1936 and 1945. He later continued his studies in Paris at the Académie Julian and the Sorbonne from 1949, further shaping his international perspective and artistic voice. In 1940, he was awarded the Crafts Association’s Silver Medal in recognition of his talent.
Dimming’s career spanned several decades and included solo and group exhibitions in Paris, Oslo, Stockholm, Malmö, Gothenburg, and numerous other Swedish cities. His public works include decorations for the County Administrative Board in Västra Götaland, Apotekarnas Vattenfabrik in Gothenburg, and Stala Bygdegård in Bohuslän.
His work is held in many prominent collections, including those of HM the King of Sweden, the Nationalmuseum, Östergötland County Museum, Kalmar Art Museum, Ystad Art Museum, Kortedala Library, and international collections in Paris, Chicago, Oslo, Helsinki, Frankfurt, and Buenos Aires.
Active within several artist communities, Dimming was a member of the Arildsgruppen and participated in exhibitions at the Konstnärshuset in Arild. He was also involved with the Gothenburg Artists' Club, the Artists' Cooperative Organization (KSO), and the Swedish Artists' National Organization (KRO).
