Victron smallBMS NG: Advanced Battery Management for Victron Smart Lithium Systems

Precision Protection for 12V, 24V, and 48V LiFePO4 Battery Banks

The Victron smallBMS NG (BMS400100000) is a compact, next-generation battery management system engineered to safeguard Victron Smart LiFePO4 batteries in off-grid, marine, and mobile applications. Replacing the earlier miniBMS, this unit delivers reliable cell-level monitoring and control without the complexity or cost of a full VE.Bus BMS. It is purpose-built for systems where a VE.Bus interface is not required, making it an ideal match for standalone inverters, DC-DC converters, and solar charge controllers.

Designed for seamless integration with Victron’s M8 circular connector Smart Lithium batteries, the smallBMS NG actively prevents deep discharge, overcharge, and temperature extremes. Its three independent outputs—Load Disconnect, Charge Disconnect, and Pre-Alarm—provide layered protection that extends battery service life and enhances system safety. Whether you are building a 12V caravan solar setup, a 24V marine power system, or a 48V off-grid energy storage solution, this BMS ensures your lithium investment remains protected under all operating conditions.

Three-Stage Protection Architecture

The smallBMS NG continuously monitors individual cell voltages and battery temperature via the Victron battery’s internal BMS communication. When parameters approach critical thresholds, it initiates a sequenced response:

  • Load Disconnect Output: Normally high (Vbat – 0.1V), this output transitions to free floating when any cell drops below the under-voltage threshold (default 2.8V/cell, adjustable 2.6–2.8V). With a 1A source current limit, it can directly drive a high-current relay, contactor, or the remote on/off input of a Victron BatteryProtect, inverter, or DC-DC converter. This prevents irreversible cell damage from over-discharge.
  • Pre-Alarm Output: Provides an early warning signal before load disconnect occurs. Normally free floating, it activates (Vbat – 0.1V, 1A max) when cell voltage falls to the pre-alarm threshold (default 3.1V/cell, adjustable 2.85–3.15V). A minimum 30-second delay before load disconnect gives systems time to shed non-critical loads or start a generator, avoiding unexpected shutdowns.
  • Charge Disconnect Output: Normally high (Vbat – 0.6V), this output goes free floating to signal an imminent cell over-voltage or over/under-temperature condition. With a 10mA source current limit and short-circuit protection, it is designed to control the remote on/off of chargers, Cyrix-Li-Charge relays, or Cyrix-Li-ct Battery Combiners. This ensures charging stops before cells exceed safe voltage or temperature limits.

Flexible System On/Off Control

The Remote L and H terminals allow straightforward system-wide on/off switching. Three control modes are supported: bridging L and H, pulling L to battery negative (<3.5V), or applying a high signal to H (2.9V to Vbat). This flexibility simplifies integration with external switches, BMS panels, or automated controllers, enabling a single point of control for both loads and chargers.

Built for Harsh Environments

Housed in a matt black ABS enclosure rated IP20, the smallBMS NG measures just 106 x 42 x 23 mm and weighs 0.1 kg. It operates across a wide temperature range of -20 to +50°C and tolerates up to 95% non-condensing humidity. The compact footprint allows installation in tight electrical compartments typical of caravans, boats, and equipment cabinets. Status LEDs provide immediate visual feedback: a blue Load ON indicator confirms active load output, while a red Temp or OVP LED warns of charge disconnect due to temperature or over-voltage events.

Why Choose the Victron smallBMS NG?

  • Direct compatibility with Victron Smart LiFePO4 batteries featuring M8 circular connectors—no additional interfaces required.
  • Wide operating voltage range of 8–70 VDC supports 12V, 24V, and 48V nominal systems from a single model.
  • Ultra-low power consumption: typically 2.2 mA when remote on, minimising parasitic drain on the battery bank.
  • Pre-alarm functionality reduces the risk of sudden system shutdowns by providing advance warning of low cell voltage.
  • Automotive-grade compliance to UN/ECE-R10 Rev.4, plus safety and EMC standards (EN 60950, EN 61000-6-3, EN 55014-1, EN 61000-6-2, EN 61000-6-1, EN 55014-2), ensuring reliable operation in vehicle and marine environments.

Applications

The smallBMS NG is the preferred battery management solution for Victron lithium systems where a VE.Bus MultiPlus or Quattro inverter/charger is not used. Typical installations include:

  • Caravans and camper trailers with standalone inverters and MPPT solar controllers.
  • Marine electrical systems using alternator charging via Cyrix-Li-ct relays.
  • Remote off-grid cabins and tiny homes with DC-only or non-VE.Bus AC systems.
  • Portable power packs and mobile workstation setups.

By offloading critical protection functions to a dedicated BMS, you reduce the risk of cell damage, improve system reliability, and simplify wiring compared to generic or multi-brand solutions. The smallBMS NG is not suitable for use with VE.Bus inverter/chargers; for those applications, consider the VE.Bus BMS.

Protect Your Lithium Investment

Equip your Victron Smart Lithium battery bank with the smallBMS NG and gain confidence that your cells are monitored and protected around the clock. Order the Victron smallBMS NG today and build a safer, longer-lasting energy system for your next adventure or off-grid project.

Not a bad start
Format: Kindle
3 stars Thank you Netgalley and Briar Boleyn for the ARC! A camelot/king Arthur retelling with fae. I was hooked by the idea of this book immediately and was eager to jump into this world. • slow burn • enemies to lovers • who did this to you Morgan Pendragon watched her mother die by her father's hand when she was just eight years old, hiding under the bed. Morgan is believed to have the tainted blood of the fae in her veins and is cast aside so that her fathers illegitimate son, Arthur, can become the king. She's seen his cruel treatment of the fae firsthand, so when he sends her on a journey to find a fae weapon she seizes the opportunity to do more with her life. Along the way, she finds more than she could have imagined. I don't know a whole lot about King Arthur and Camelot but I had a lot of fun with this story! The plot has some similar tropes to popular romantasy books (From blood and ash) but there's enough originality here that it doesn't feel like I'm reading a copy. I liked how the fae were different in appearance than what is typical in most fantasy books I've read. In this book they have blue hair, violet skin and a wide range of other characteristics. I thought that the world building was easy to follow and I could easily immerse myself into this world. After reading the blurb I kept wondering when she was going to go on the journey to find Excalibur and it doesn't happen until around the 45% mark. The story is a bit slow at times but starts to pick up once they begin their journey to find Excalibur. The John Wick style Inn was a fun concept that I enjoyed reading about. There are a lot of similarities to this and FBAA and I would have liked to have it be a little more different, but I'm hoping book two will have the story turn into something of its own. Overall I enjoyed reading this story and I'm looking forward to reading book two especially after that ending.

Right from the start, I was drawn in by the prologue!!!
Format: Paperback, Format: Paperback
Queen of Roses (Blood of a Fae #1) by Briar Boleyn Genre General Fiction ( Adult), Romance, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Dark Romance “More primordial than the stars. My name was on his lips as he promised unspeakable darkness to any who came between us.” Right from the start, I was drawn in by the prologue!!! I’m a big fan of “touch her, and you die” vibes, but I mean, what’s also not to love about a unique Arthurian retelling with gender twists, a treacherous royal court, a dangerous quest, magical Fae & mystical monsters, entwined with a bit of spice! Morgan, Princess of Pendrath and true heir to the throne has spent most of her life dimming her light to feel safe and to make others comfortable. She is treated as an outcast in the court and repressed by her family due to the blood of the Fae within her and forced to join the Temple of the Three as a priestess in training to one day replace Merlin. Her brother, King Arthur, who reminds me of Joffrey from Game of Thrones, later tells her that he has other plans and offers her a choice of the Temple or to marry her off for political gain, unless… that is, she can journey through the great unknown and return with a long-lost fae weapon with enchanted powers known as Excalibur. Her quest begins with a roguish crew that includes the mysterious, arrogant, and heart-tuggingly handsome Captain of the Royal Guard, Kairos Draven, whom she can’t decide if she wants to stab or indulge in pleasure with. Along the way are plenty of surprises, mystical creatures, and betrayal, all while Morgan uncovers more of the truth about herself and who she can trust. This book had intriguing storylines and lovable characters that kept me turning pages and wanting more. I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds and comes together in book 2, Court of Claws, which I just started reading!! Read if you’re into- Dark Fantasy/Romance Slow–Burn Question Everything Magic and Action Fae Arthurian Legend Stabby/Broken FFC Morally Gray MMC Forced Proximity Queen of Roses is perfect for Holly Black, Jennifer L. Armentrout, and Sarah J. Maas fans. Please check the trigger warnings page in the table of contents before reading this book.

3.5 stars, A little boring to say the least.
Format: Kindle
Wow so I'm not sure where to begin on this one. This was a very different take on the legend of Arthur and Excalibur. This is told from the point of view of Morgan the sister of Arthur. Honestly the first 50% of this book is world building and character building which unfortunately was super boring for me. Morgan to me was a female MC that had a hard time in believing in herself. Sometimes taking too long to understand exactly what was going on around her. Draven was also a different male MC, like I couldn't put my finger on him and what he was all about. It was not until the last 10% of the book did we get some answers on the mystery that is Draven. The other 50% of the book centered around this big journey with everyone having a different motive. We see a spark of magic around this time that had me excited but then we never expanded upon that and what it could mean for the female MC. I feel like I want to read the second book just to see where this goes, but the spice was probably a 2 out of 5. Side characters are ok, Lancelet was fun but I almost felt like I wanted more.

A bewitching retelling of Arthurian legend!
Format: Kindle
In a land where the Fae have nearly become only a legend and those who still posses even a morsel of the blood are few and far between, Morgan finds herself cast aside by most of society due to her rumored half-Fae lineage, including her brother, King Arthur. With the kingdom at the brink of war, Arthur entrusts her with a quest to retrieve a Fae weapon of legendary power: the sword of Perun, Excalibur. Accompanied by men she loathes, Captain Kairos Draven and Ragnar Whitehorn, she embarks on her long and unbeknownst perilous journey, only to find that things she once believed to be myth are in fact very real. With devastating twists, omitted truths, witty banter and fierce action, Queen of Roses leaves you begging to know more about the secrets of Aercanum! Wow, wow, wow! Going into this story, I did not realize that it was going to be a retelling of Arthurian legend, especially not one with a fantastical twist! The unique spin almost gave me The Witcher vibes and I think adding Fae into the mix was quite interesting. I knew the basics of the legend but after reading this book, it has piqued my interest and makes me want to learn more about it. My attention was snatched as soon as I finished the prologue and I knew that I was going to devour this story. I truly enjoyed the gender swaps and even how Arthur was portrayed as villainous. Morgan’s past and even her parts of her present is absolutely heartbreaking, and I felt for her at times. I can only recall one other book that made me hate characters the way I despised Florian and Arthur, leaving me with my blood boiling and feeling disgusted. Even after finishing the book, Draven is still a mystery to me and I cannot figure out how to feel about him. I guess they just means that the author did an excellent job at conveying each character’s persona! The rich world building and imagery made it easy for me to visualize the places that the group visited along their journey. I am truly engulfed in this story and I cannot wait to see wait fate awaits Morgan and how the Fae will be even more incorporated in the next book!. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
