HOGAN’S HEROES - THE COMPLETE SERIES (CBS 1967-72) EXCELLENT RETAIL QUALITY!!! Bob Crane, Werner Klemperer, John Banner, Richard Dawson, Larry Hovis, Robert Clary, Ivan Dixon, Kenneth WashingtonSet in Stalag 13 a Luftwaffe POW camp outside of Hammelburg, Germany, in the middle of World War II the premise of this sitcom was that American prisoners of war would have no desire to escape from a German prison camp if they could use their superior intelligence to aid other allies in escaping from the camp while making their surroundings as comfortable as a luxury resort. Set in Stalag 13 – a Luftwaffe POW camp outside of Hammelburg, Germany, in the middle of World War II – the premise of this sitcom was that American prisoners of war would have no desire to escape from a German prison camp if they could use their superior intelligence to aid other allies in escaping from the camp while making their surroundings as comfortable as a luxury resort.

Naturally, in order to accomplish all this, the Germans running the camp – including the Kommandant, Luftwaffe Colonel Klink (Werner Klemperer), and his main prison guard, Sergeant Schultz (John Banner) – would have to be fairly incompetent, inept and somewhat stupid. Since the depiction of these befuddled officers bore little resemblance to the way real-life Nazis behaved, this TV show has always been surrounded in controversy.

Ever since it first aired, many objections were raised over the fact that the German soldiers on this series acted like lovable buffoons – “I know nothing, I see nothing” – rather than barbaric, evil mass murderers and torturers of innocent people. In spite of the people who found this sitcom to be offensive, Hogan’s Heroes enjoyed a lengthy network run in the late 1960s-early 70s and constantly airs in reruns around the world to this day.

Much of the show’s popularity had to do with the appealing quality of the American soldiers, particularly the suave, coolly intelligent US Army Air Force Colonel Robert Hogan (Bob Crane), who led his multi-ethnic band of men on a never-ending series of comic capers, all of which had the purpose of defeating and humiliating the enemy in the most ingenious ways possible.

Peter Newkirk (Richard Dawson), the British RAF prisoner, was a master pickpocket and expert tailor with a talent for impersonation. Andrew Carter (Larry Hovis) was an explosives expert. Louis LeBeau (Robert Clary), the French POW, was a jack-of-all-trades. James Kinchloe (Ivan Dixon) was a former Golden Gloves boxer. He and Richard Baker (Kenneth Washington) ran the underground communications center. Helga (Cynthia Lynn) was Klink’s first secretary, eventually replaced by Hilda (Sigrid Valdis).

The real villains were stern Gestapo agent General Alfred Burkhalter (Leon Askin) and Major Wolfgang Hochstetter (Howard Caine) who was devoted to Hitler’s cause.

Much of the show’s humour was dependent on the idiocy of Colonel Klink and Sergeant Schultz who, in spite of their relentless bravado, were putty in Hogan’s hands.

Werner Klemperer and John Banner who play the chief Germans were, in fact, both Jewish. Klemperer – son of noted conductor Otto Klemperer, head of the Berlin State Opera – had to flee Nazi Germany, while Vienna-born John Banner was driven out of Europe when the Nazis took over Austria. His entire family was wiped out and he went on to serve in the US military during the war. Robert Clary (LeBeau) was imprisoned during WWII in the Ottmuth, Blechhammer, Gross-Rosen and Buchenwald concentration camps as a child. His prison number, tattooed on his left forearm, was A-5714.

By 1967 CBS believed that enough years had passed to diminish the memory of many of the horrors of World War II, which had ended 22 years earlier. The network felt that a situation comedy set in a Prisoner of War (POW) camp during the war would, by that time, be acceptable to the viewing public. They were right, and Hogan’s Heroes became a hit and aired for six seasons.

Excellent upgrade from Boombox 3
Color: Black
This bluetooth speaker packs a good punch without flooding the overall soundscape with excessive bass rattle. Great sound at good value.

Bass Forward, Heavy physicality, Excellent upgrade!
Color: Blue, Color: Blue
I would like to start this by saying that I’m having to rewrite this as my first one violated community guidelines so I guess. But I wanted to preface that I have owned at least 1 of every generation of the JBL Boombox Series (1 OG BB, 2pair Gen 2, 2 pair Gen 3, 2 for the current JBLboombox 4!! I’m also extremely into audio and technology and speakers are an expertise of mine! I personally think that this was the biggest leap forward in the series and although I am still disappointed we reverted back to a 2-way system instead of the pioneering 3-way set up and that is a bummer but as far as feeling the music, want bass? Can’t get enough. These Boombox 4 CRANK that low Freq and can sustain a sub 40 Hz base note on battery for extended periods of time. I had no idea that physics would allow such a small item to create base like it does and that’s given proper acoustics of the room of the hallway ~~you know, you put your speaker somewhere and you’re like it sounds the best right here. That’s the soundstage (ish) but wow! The two base boost options are awesome and remind me of the OG BB with what was called “home and outdoor mode” When I’m rocking my stereo pair of Boombox 4s I basically always have the bass boost feature turned on the deep base (mode 1) and the other option (mode 2) is to have “punchy base” however I don’t recommend that one. Overall super happy with Bluee & Squad box! I will say that the only lighting feature on it is to me a very useful and fun incorporation of LEDs into a portable speaker as the color whether orange or white will show you from a distance what bass mode you’re in but also, you can verify it by a glance and rockin’ these dark orange glows, white punches or nothing at all. :) Oh and the Original JBL I got in 2017 is still working like a charm in a buddy’s garage of mine (battery is shot, must stay plugged in to use) But JBL will last a long time, there’s such a big variety to choose from on the Bluetooth market these days that you can find a speaker for any size occasion or prefer preference. Lastly…✅✅✅✅ AURACAST ✅✅✅✅HAS BEEN FLAWLESS!! 🤩 as I had connection issues with every type of linking JBL’s had to offer since Connect… so JBLs Connect, Connect+, partyboost, ect ….. no good! ESPECIALLY in a dang stereo pair. Now when I turn on both speakers, they automatically link into stereo mode and it is simple as can be and they haven’t even hiccups once for the hundreds of hours they’ve played music already. Well I hope this finds someone who I intent it too, That’s all folks!

I ran out of stars!!!
Color: Blue
It's hard to know where to begin when talking about the JBL Boombox 4. Let me begin by stating I'm no stranger to JBL speakers of which I have several. I've had 3 extremes, 2 charges, and 1 Big Boombox #1. This boombox 4 is another beast all together. Let me also add I'm also a recording/ mixing engineer so I have pretty good ears for music and how things should sound. I was literally overwhelmed by the sheer size and essence of the BB4. It was like trying to take control of a baby elephant that had somehow gotten loose. It almost seems twice the size of the Boombox 1-3 but it is fatter around middle which gives it a chunkier appearance. It really is a beauty to behold especially in blue like mine. The sound is better than the others but to get that fat bass you have to push the bass (B) button to the first level. Push it again and bass as well as vocals and instruments are pushed more to the forefront and more in your face. I don't play music loud and usually stick with smooth jazz styles. Everything I've played has sounded good with the bass button engaged. I can only compare the BB4 to the BB1. The BB1 is still very good with good bass response but the BB4 blows it out of the water. I could've lived with the BB1 but I know one day the battery is going to die and I'd be stuck with a very large door stop. I refuse to go through the stress of trying to replace the battery in another JBL speaker which was pure hell and it still never worked again. When I heard about the new batteries and how easy you could swap them out I was sold. I almost got the extreme 4 but the Boombox 4 had a much bigger and expansive sound. Reviewers have reported that the stereo spread is non-existent. Not true. I hear very good stereo separation. Not exactly as wide as two separate speakers but very good as it is. I really didn't need another speaker especially one so pricey but the ability to easily remove the battery says this speaker will be around for a very long time. At this price point the speaker case could and should have been included with the purchase.

🙋🏾‍♂️I’ve owned the original BoomBox 1 since 2019. I had that battery and brick replaced in February of 2023 and that thang never lost any of its sound quality over that 4yr period. Sadly those replacement items just gave out on me on February 3,2026. I contemplated replacing the battery and brick once again because the speakers were still grade A in sound quality…but then I saw the Boombox4 and thought,”why spend another $200 when I’ve already done so?” I paid $499 for Boombox1 so I wasted no time ordering Boombox4 and I’m thrilled to see that the engineers have designed the 4 without a brick and that it’s charging system automatically shuts off once it reaches 100%. This was the only issue I had with the original Boombox1 and now I look forward to YEARS of usage. I’m a FedEx courier with a rual route and I spend 12hrs a day out there on the road! JBL Boombox4 has no issues keeping up with my demands…just like the original. Come to think of it,I’m going to get the battery and brick replaced on the Boombox1 and keep it as well, salute JBL…I am your #1 supporter ✊🏾🖤

REAL PHYSICAL SUBBASS
Color: White
You can actually physically feel the bass. The bass boost 1 mode is super super amazing its sound quality parallels the JBL Ultimates which i have 2 of and this color is marvelous. The weight is also amazing my infant daughter loves this speaker and I'm soo soo impressed on the progress the boom box has made in the past 5 years this version completely outshines previous generations. LOVE IT!!
