Er zijn maar weinig gitaren die zó iconisch zijn als Jimmy Page’s 1969 EDS-1275 Doubleneck. De beelden van hem met deze gitaar op het podium met Led Zeppelin staan in het collectieve geheugen van elke rockliefhebber gegrift. Gibson maakt al doublenecks sinds 1958, maar het was Jimmy die de EDS-1275 voorgoed op de kaart zette. Dankzij deze gitaar kon hij live moeiteloos schakelen tussen de 6- en 12-snarige partijen in nummers als Stairway to Heaven. Ook bij The Song Remains the Same, The Rain Song, Celebration Day, Tangerine en zelfs tijdens de Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2023 was deze doubleneck van de partij.

In nauwe samenwerking met Jimmy Page zelf heeft Gibson Custom deze gitaar opnieuw tot leven gebracht. Met behulp van 3D-scantechnologie is de originele EDS-1275 tot in het kleinste detail gereproduceerd — precies zoals hij eruitzag toen Jimmy ‘m in 1969 ontving, vóór alle battle scars van jarenlange wereldtours. De subtiel verouderde VOS nitrocellulose-lak geeft de gitaar een prachtig zachte vintage patina, zonder de uitgebreide Murphy Lab veroudering van de eerdere Collector’s Edition.

De Jimmy Page EDS-1275 heeft een double-cutaway body uit één stuk mahonie, wat zorgt voor fantastische toegang tot beide halzen. Zowel de 12- als 6-snarige hals zijn van mahonie, met lange tenons en een traditionele hide glue-neckjoint. De halsprofielen zijn 1-op-1 overgenomen van de originele gitaar via 3D-scans, en beide zijn voorzien van een gebonden toets van Indiaas palissander. Met 20 medium jumbo frets, authentieke parallelogram-inlays en een 12” radius speelt deze doubleneck verrassend comfortabel — of je nu akkoorden speelt of solo’s trekt.

De 18 tuners zijn Kluson® double line, double ring exemplaren, precies zoals op het origineel. Zelfs de headstocks hebben de correcte 17° hoek en de juiste logo-stijl.

Qua elektronica is het puur Page-DNA: twee onbedekte Jimmy Page EDS-1275 Custombuckers met Alnico 5 magneten op de 6-snarige hals, en een bedekte set op de 12-snarige kant. Uiteraard met CTS® potmeters, keramische disc-capacitors en Switchcraft® schakelaars en output. Alles met oog voor detail, alles zoals toen.

Dit is jouw kans om een bijna perfecte kloon van Jimmy Page’s beroemde 1969 EDS-1275 in handen te krijgen — precies zoals hij destijds geleverd werd. It smells as good as my cologne.
I never go out without a shot of Guerlain L'Homme Idéal L'Intense cologne. Guerlain does not offer a layered line of products with similar scents. I wanted a deodorant and body wash to match. None of the Old Spice scents came close. Axe Oud Wood & Dark Vanilla antiperspirant has more vanilla and is a bit subdued but works. Finding a body wash was harder. Cremo Spice & Black Vanilla Body Wash sounded promising, but I was apprehensive about its scent including tobacco. I did not want to smell like an ashtray. But when I opened the bottle, I was met with a surprising scent from the past. I immediately recognized it as premium Danish pipe tobacco. Most people do not recognize this aromatic scent as coming from tobacco at all. In fact, it smells more like fresh cured tobacco itself, not its smoke. This adds a very pleasant and masculine smell to the body wash on top of the spice, wood, and vanilla scent I was searching for. The scent only lasts a few hours after you rinse off. One push on the dispenser puts enough soap on a shower loofah to wash your whole body. I do not rinse off my loofah; I squeeze the soap out of it to wash my face, then I place it back in its tray next to the bottle. The scent of the remaining soap acts like incense until my next shower. I was also pleasantly surprised to find that this body soap has a rich lather and cleans as well as advertised. I had forgotten the reason I bought the body soap until I used it.
