Tasting Notes

Powerfully herbaceous with peppery nose. A fresh palate with minty, pine sap and citrus notes. Bittersweet tea at the end leads to a prolonged, lingering taste.

Production Notes

Intended to be medicine, and dating back to the 1700s, the recipe for Chartreuse is a closely kept secret. Currently, the liqueur is produced in the Aiguenoire Distillery in France. Taste France has done a nice contemporary piece detailing the production. Only 2 monks oversee the production process, and the entire process from container sizes to the aging period(s) is also held confidentially. 

Final note: after many chats with Curiada customers about Chartreuse, tasting the spirit in a few cocktails myself (Last Words are popular around here), and doing a bit of research about the producers I can't help thinking that the Carthusian Monks have a knack for distilling and marketing.
