N.B.: The steel used in the parang has a high level of carbon. This means that the blade is very strong and easy to sharpen but that it is susceptible to corrosion. Therefore, it is essential to keep the knife dry. If the knife is not used for a long time, it is advisable to lubricate the steel blade.
It is also worth remembering that a machete is mainly intended for chopping and slashing through branches and bushes. This does not require a razor-sharp edge. Like other machetes, the Bear Grylls machete does not come with a razor-sharp edge. However, it can be sharpened, if desired.
