Tasting Notes
Appearance
Intense crimson-red — the deep, vibrant colour of a Châteauneuf-du-Pape crafted from Grenache-dominant fruit sourced from Quaternary period terraces with large, round pebbles from the former Rhône riverbed, with the richness and depth that traditional high-temperature vinification delivers.
Aroma
Complex and subtle — blackcurrant and plum on the nose, followed by roasted coffee and cinnamon, cherry, and morello cherry. A layered, expressive, and distinctly Southern Rhône bouquet that reflects the character of the appellation and the expertise of M. Chapoutier.
Palate
Spicy and fruity — liquorice, ripe cherry, and dark fruit filling the palate with the natural sweetness and elegance that Grenache brings to the blend, supported by the structure of Syrah and the depth of Mourvèdre. Silky tannins, great finesse, and a long, satisfying finish.
Pairs With
A natural companion for slow-roasted lamb, duck confit, wild boar, aged hard cheeses, and the finest Provençal table — M. Chapoutier La Bernadine is equally delightful with grilled meats, Mediterranean cuisine, and any occasion that calls for a wine of genuine complexity and versatility. Truly the wines of the Pope.
