Martin's Road Series is a celebrated lineup of guitars with plenty of great models to pick from. Matching the forward-thinking design choices of modern Martins with the great acoustic tones of Martin's past, the Road Series D-10E Retro Sapele is certainly something to check out. This Road Series starts with a Martin D-14 Fret dreadnought body made entirely of sapele. A rich and resonant tonal profile projects from this classic Martin body with a satin finish and 5/16" scalloped spruce braces lined up in an X-Brace pattern enhancing volume and tonal complexity.

In the fretting hand, this Road Series drops in a select hardwood neck in a Martin Performing Artist profile with a High Performance taper. Moving smoothly from higher to lower registers, this neck is easy to pick up and hard to put down. A select hardwood fingerboard lined with twenty Martin frets offers a comfortable fretting experience with faux Mother of Pearl Diamonds & Squares Short inlays for that added Martin visual flourish.

Rounding up this road show, we're treated to a number of hardware specs and appointments to make this dreadnought shine. The Road Series D-10E Retro Sapele lines up a white Corian nut and nickel open gear tuning machines at its headstock for easy stringing and solid intonation. It then builds this out with a Modern Belly bridge and a white TUSQ saddle for a great transfer of motion. These parts keep the playing experience fluid yet firm while a single-ring fiber rosette keeps things visually understated. Onboard Martin E1 electronics quickly translate the tones of this dreadnought to the stage. This Martin Road Series D-10E Retro Sapele travels with an included Martin softshell case.

This "valet" organizer, which is the first time I've heard that term for a product like this, is nearly perfect. For me, it checks all of the boxes and in a perfect world, I would have opted for a smaller piece with only three compartments for mobile, wallet, and keys. It's well made and quite attractive, especially the blue (favorite color, so I'm biased). The only feature I'm not a fan of is how the removeable, wireless charging pad was implemented, which sits up on a small lip at a slight incline. However, I'm not complaining one bit as the wireless charging is great, and it's a differentiator that determines the value of the piece. I would have preferred the pad be built into the piece, however the angle of it does make it easy to grab opposed to using your finger(s) to pry it up.

That aside, the trays are a handsome set. I think 20% larger might serve us a tad better, but this will do very nicely for now. We're able to fit almost everything we need in the tray and that will leave the tables looking much tidier, even if one or two items don't quite make it in.
