This 1 day workshop, taught by Cate Barlow with Rebecca Kelson assisting, and hosted in collaboration with 'Foodie Friends' who will be supplying a delicious morning sweet treat and sit down lunch, is to be held at Bishop’s Lodge Historic House, Hay, NSW.

It promises to be a fun & special day out, consisting of an insight into the world of hand printing. Cate will demonstrate various block printing techniques such as wood block printing, potato printing, lino printing, & foam block printing, on differing surfaces including fabric, paper & hard surfaces like walls. With a hands on approach, participants will have the opportunity to create their own designs, make their own blocks, & practice these techniques. After a some practice time in the morning and a delicious lunch, guests will complete their own original printed project in the afternoon with Cate and Bec's guidance.

All materials used on the day will be supplied as part of the cost of the workshop, along with refreshments on arrival and a delicious lunch prepared by our friends, local Hay caterers 'Foodie Friends'.

Guests will go home equipped with new knowledge and skills, their finished printed project, along with Cate's own written instruction sheets, and a generous bag of gifts including tools to support their ongoing creativity in printing, plus other little surprises to keep.

These are actually three separately assembled screens that link together once ready, so I could gauge the improvement in my capability as a screen-assembling artisan. I’m 71 so getting down on the floor wasn’t all that easy. The first screen took 90 minutes as I tried to decipher the typically less than ideal pictorial directions, and to figure out how to position everything (including myself) working in a fairly small space. But by the third assembly I was a skilled craftsman and assembled it in 15 minutes. They look nice and do what I had hoped. All the parts were there, well-labeled, and the threading on the screw mountings were adequate although one required a bit more cajoling than the rest and worried me a bit until I finally got it right.
