Its color is the beautiful deep reddish-brown of Mesquite heartwood with a wedge of sapwood and bark at the bottom of the annotated face. The grain is inclined to the long axis, giving it a diagonal striping that is eye-catching. This block has been fully air-dried to 10-12% moisture content. The "wet" photos show what it may look like when finished. We use alcohol to dampen the wood safely. The block has several cracks on the back face. You can ignore these or treat with CA glue. |
