COURSE OVERVIEW:

Welcome to the Support People with Dementia course. This program has been designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills and compassionate strategies required to support individuals living with dementia across different stages of progression. You will explore dementia as a neurological condition, the range of associated manifestations, and the person-centred approaches essential to maintaining dignity, independence and quality of life. You will also examine communication techniques, behavioural support strategies, activity planning, documentation requirements and self-care practices for workers and carers.

This course begins by explaining what dementia is, how it manifests differently depending on the underlying cause, and how to provide effective support for people living with dementia. This learning area explores the principles of person-centred care and outlines appropriate communication strategies for engaging with people with dementia, their families and carers. It also discusses methods for assisting with activities that meaningfully meet the needs and preferences of individuals with dementia.

The next learning area examines the major types of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, vascular or multi-infarct dementia, Lewy body dementia, Korsakov syndrome, frontotemporal lobar degeneration such as Pick’s disease, Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and younger-onset dementia. This learning area expands on dementia as a progressive neurological condition, highlighting key pathological features, common indicators, symptoms and behavioural presentations.

The next learning area explores behaviours of concern in people with dementia and introduces the needs-driven behaviour model. This learning area also details de-escalation procedures, strategies to minimise the impact of concerning behaviours and the progression of dementia over time, including the effects on the person, family members and significant others.

The next learning area outlines the principles of person-centred support, including the use of activities that enhance self-esteem, build pleasure, and reduce behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia. This learning area also explains competency and image enhancement as approaches to address devaluation, and provides guidance on maintaining independence through familiar routines, existing skills and meaningful engagement.

The next learning area discusses activity planning and reminiscence-based practices that support wellbeing. This learning area also outlines how to balance safety, comfort and autonomy when supporting a person with dementia, and how to provide support and guidance to family members and carers as they navigate emotional, practical and behavioural challenges.

The next learning area introduces the ABC approach to behaviour assessment and explains how to record incident reports, maintain documentation and store records securely. This learning area emphasises the importance of accurate, objective reporting to enable effective support planning and communication between team members and family.

The next learning area highlights the importance of monitoring your own stress levels when working with people with dementia. This learning area also provides self-care strategies and guidance on when and how to seek support to maintain personal wellbeing, resilience and professional effectiveness.

By the end of this course you will be able to understand the diverse manifestations of dementia, apply person-centred support strategies, use appropriate communication techniques, manage behaviours of concern safely, plan and facilitate meaningful activities, support families and carers, complete documentation accurately, and implement self-care strategies to sustain your wellbeing in dementia-related work environments.

Ideal fit for man parts
Color: Light Khaki, Size: 34W x 32L
Phenomenal fit, honestly one of the first pairs of khakis that doesn’t encroach on my nether regions, moves very well very lightweight. If these pants are durable, and last, I will definitely be buying another pair.
